Handbag designer and new mother, Rebecca Minkoff, like any working mom has tons to juggle. Each day she battles to fit the bottles, wipes and diapers for her five month old son Luca, along with the things she needs for work. Now, how do you fit all of that stuff into a handbag and maintain a stylish look?

Minkoff decided to skip the specialized diaper bag and decided to go with a single tote bag that can fit everything she needs to take care of Luca along with the things she'd normally carry in a purse. Lugging both a diaper bag and purse around New York city is a pain. Combining everything into a single tote makes it easier to get around the crowded city.

Her day bag is made of a cotton weave, a practical fabric for mothers. "Let's say my bottle spills or he spits up, it's just nice to know that I can easily clean it," she says. Nylon, which doesn't absorb liquids easily, is a great fabric for such bags, too. Leather, while wipeable, can be a little heavier to carry.

Today there are lots of options for bags to carry around the supplies a baby needs. Stylishly designed diaper bags are available from many different designers. There are even companies like DadGear with bags that are cool enough to be carried by young fathers. Some of these bags could certainly do double duty as both diaper bags and purses or work bags.
